Especially, if you are Terri of Terri Terri Quite Contrary. You need to take one part Gen-X'er, one part accomplished photographer, 3 parts kids, one part mommy, one part hottie and an extra dose of sassy.

For an extra special St. Patty's Day treat read all about Terri.

1. You've talked about the sense of community on your "About Me" section or at least referred to it. What have you gained from the community you have created with your blog?

The friends I have made through blogging have given me a voice and a sense of self. Blogging has allowed me to voice so many thoughts and opinions I've never had the nerve to voice in my real life. It's such a release to put my true thoughts out there, knowing I'm running the risk of embarrassing myself or drawing disagreement, only to find that in most cases there is overwhelming support and validation. People joke about online friendships, but I have often found that my online community is made up of people who have brought out the real me.

2. Three kids who obviously adore you and you them, but being a parent is hard. How has your perspective of parenting changed after having kids?

Before becoming a parent I had this idealistic attitude about what it would be like. I was going to nurture and encourage my kids. I was going to remember every positive impact of my childhood and make sure my kids experienced the same. I was never going to forget any of the hurts and disappointments and I planned to make sure they never had to suffer those difficulties. I had visions of bringing out the best in them and watching them blossom into the most spectacular people I could imagine. I assumed they would take on only the best of qualities from their parents.

What I didn't take into account is that my children were going to be whomever God intended them to be. I didn't realize that they would keep me guessing. I learned that one child might be easy going and well rounded while another would be obstinate and difficult. One might be driven to succeed academically while another would be content to simply get by. I had to accept that what worked with one child didn't necessarily work with another child. The hardest part was having to accept that I would not always (or "not often") be the perfect parent and sometimes I would fail miserably. I learned to take things one day at a time, to keep trying day after day, year after year in a situation that never seemed to improve and that some things are simply beyond my control. I also learned that before becoming a parent I never could have imagined the depth of pride and love I could feel for another human being.

3. You have a very telling post titled ";Realizations"; on February 24th of 2007. http://territerri.wordpress.com/2007/02/24/realizations/ These are some deep thoughts. It's been a year since you wrote that. What have you learned since then? Have the words you written and your epiphanies changed you?

That post was very much about my realization that I've carried around a lot of bitterness in my lifetime and that it's possible that I have the power to change my outlook on life simply by focusing on more positive thoughts. I'd love to say that those realizations forever changed my attitude for the better, but the reality is, I'm human. There are days in which I feel like I can take on the world and there are days where it feels like I'm carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. Change... real change takes time and effort and I guess I'd say that it's a work in progress at this point, but hopefully someday that positive thinking will be the norm for me.

4. As much as your post on February 24th was introspective, your February 19th 2007 post was hilarious entitled "Teen Speak". What's different about being a teenager now as opposed to last year when you were a teen?

Last week! HA! I wish! (Actually, I don't wish. Being a teen is a LOT of work!)

Oh, man! SO much has changed. I think about how I couldn't talk to my parents about ANYTHING and how I thought that they didn't even know who I was back then. These days, I think parents are much more open with their kids and one thing I've made a point to do is try to talk to my kids about whatever it is we need to talk about to stay in tune with each other, no matter how uncomfortable those conversations might be. And in spite of how the general attitude is that the world is going to hell in a hand basket, I think kids are better informed these days. They have the opportunity to be so much more responsible than when I was a teen. They are much more aware of the dangers of drugs and drinking and though there are still too many taking those risks, many more are making conscious and informed decisions not to. My oldest, in his first year of college, has not done any drinking. When I tell people that, they tell me my son is pulling the wool over my eyes. But I have a very open relationship with my son and I know him. He'll tell me if and when he decides to drink. (And lest you think this sounds just a little too perfect, let me assure you child #2 does everything in his power to make sure I'm completely unaware of HIS activities, but I digress.)

On the down side, kids may be so much more vulnerable now than ever before. Today kids are in constant communication with each other. My kids have multitudes of contacts in their cell phones and they text each other constantly. They have access to online communities, Myspace and Facebook, and their "friends" number in the hundreds. Everyone is aware of everyone else and it can be scary to think about the kinds of information they absorb.

There is however, one really positive difference I see in my kids lives. When I was in high school, the main goal for everyone seemed to be to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. There was tremendous pressure to have sex at such a young age. I felt like I missed out on exploring so much of myself because I was too busy trying to be what I thought someone else wanted me to be. So much of my own lack of confidence and assertiveness was the result of seeking acceptance at the expense of my own values. My kids are much more focused on exploring their interests, playing sports and improving their skills. Dating has entered the picture a time or two, but it doesn't seem to be the biggest goal. I like that.

5. Do you ever catch men checking you out? How about your son's friends? How do you feel about that?

Oh yeah. I'm REAL popular with the homeless guys that I pass in the skyways on my way into the office! Other than that, there's been an occasion or two when I've caught someone checking me out. I do have to admit that it's an ego boost, but it also makes me feel self conscious. I just don't handle being the center of attention very well.

There is one instance involving a friend of my son that was really embarrassing, especially because my son found it so amusing. We were at the home of one of Brad's friends. Her parents were hosting a gathering for a bunch of kids who were all going to the school semi-formal dance that evening. All of the parents had been invited to meet at their home before the kids left for the dance so that we could get pictures of the kids all dressed in their finest.

I was talking with another mom when I heard Brad trying to get my attention. I looked across the kitchen at him and he was laughing and waving me over. His friend, Trav was grabbing his arms and frantically saying, "NO, Brad! NO!" So I just smiled and continued my conversation. Later on I asked Brad what it was all about. He told me, "Trav asked me if it was ok if he asked you to be his date for the dance. He got really embarrassed when he realized I was going to actually tell you what he said!" No wonder Trav always act so shy around me now!

6. You didn't write for two months in 2007. That's a long time to be away from blogging. What was hard about "getting back in the habit" - and I'm not talking about nuns?

I never took a break from blogging. That gap is the result of my original blog getting hacked beyond repair. When all my posts were transferred to the new site, some of them didn't make it. I'm still planning to recover those. It just hasn't happened yet.

I'm actually a somewhat obsessive blogger. If I don't post for three days or more without explanation, you can assume I'm dead.

7. What parts of you and your husband do you see in your kids? What things do you see in your kids that concern you?

My boys have inherited their dad's passion for wildlife and the outdoors. They live for those occasions when they can be out on the lake hunting or fishing.

Brad is our oldest, and like his dad is a very hard worker and doesn't give up on a task until it's completed to his satisfaction. Brad is accepting of all people and gives everyone a chance, unless they hurt him or someone he cares about. He gets that from me.

Jake, our middle child, has his dad's somewhat obsessive/compulsive/attention deficit personality. He's more like his dad in that he needs to get a feel for people before he'll open himself up to them. Jake has my passion for music of all kinds and the poor kid also got my obstinate and angst-ridden demeanor, no doubt the result of being a middle child, like me.

Kacey is our youngest and like me, she loves to be silly and she's a voracious reader and a high achiever academically. She's not shy. She's a social butterfly. She gets that from her dad. She's taking the world by storm and wants to experience it all. I'm not sure where she gets that, but I love that part of her personality.

Sometimes I notice a hesitation in my kids to believe in themselves and their abilities. I think this is to some degree, a trait they inherited from me. I tend to be introverted and have always been afraid to take risks. When I see them doing this, I feel guilty that I failed to instill a sense of confidence in them.

8. If for some awful reason you were to pass on, what would you want to tell Kacey about being a mom and a woman?

I would tell her to be true to her instincts and to remember that sometimes it takes great difficulty to achieve true success. Follow your heart and you won't go wrong. It's as simple as that.

9. Tell everyone about your best friend.

Ahhh... my best friend! I met Gina twenty years ago when she started dating a good friend of my brother. I liked her right away because she wasn't afraid to be herself no matter where she was or who was around. Our oldest children were born within months of each other and this fact brought us closer together. We navigated the uncharted waters of parenting together and during the years that each of us spent at home taking care of our growing families, daily phone calls kept us sane. She has an eternally optimistic attitude and an infectious personality. We always say that we plan to never grow up because having fun is what keeps us young. We love to sing Karaoke together, and we've done such crazy things as take a 2:00 am trip to Sex World just see all the crazy things they sell. We have cried on each other's shoulders, and laughed like lunatics. We have talked about everything and nothing for countless hours and never run out of things to talk about.

10. What is romantic to you?

Romantic is anything that proves to me that my husband is truly thinking about me, about what's important to me and about what would make me happy. This doesn't come easy to him, but in the past few years, he's made a huge effort to prove to me that he is capable. Last Christmas, he bought me a macro lens for my camera, and for Valentine's Day, a filter for my camera lens. These might not seem romantic to some, but he knows how much I love my camera and he went to great effort to research and purchase the accessories that are compatible with my camera. That meant a lot to me... not that he bought me good gifts but that he spent so much time considering me.

11. How do you stay in such good shape?

Being in shape (if you can call me that) is mostly the result of genetics. I come from a long line of tall, thin people. Although, a few years ago, I noticed that I could no longer eat anything I wanted any time I wanted and that I was buying bigger sizes than ever before. At that time, I was drinking Pepsi all the time. It wasn't uncommon for me to drink four or five cans a day. I gave up the Pepsi and switched to diet pop (yes, POP!) and started taking brisk three-mile walks every day before work. I've fallen out of the daily walking routine and only do a stepper workout a couple times a week, if that. Besides that, I simply try to eat meals that aren't completely unhealthy and just limit the number of snacks I eat. Except for Oreo Cakesters. Those are a staple of my diet.

12. Who would play you and your husband and kids in a movie?

Robert DeNiro (ala Meet the Parents) would play the hubby because his character is very set in his ways and has strong opinions while everyone around him takes his intensity with a grain of salt.

Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls will play me because her character meets her daughter on her level and isn't afraid to have fun with her. And sometimes the daughter acts more mature than the mom. That definitely mirrors my life.

Brad - Wally Cleaver (go ahead and get in a little trouble sometimes, kid! Not a lot. Just a little.)

Jake - Dennis the Menace (He means well, but .... Well... if there's trouble to be found...)

Kacey - Laura Ingalls (She's got her tomboy side, but she's discovering her girly-girl side lately.)

Bernard Pivot Questions
=======================

1. What is your favorite word?
chocolate

2. What is your least favorite word?
balancethecheckbook

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Music

4. What turns you off?
Arrogance

5. What is your favorite curse word?
"Fudge Cakes" - is the one I say out loud and the family friendly alternative to the one I use when I'm the only one who can hear me.

6. What sound or noise do you love?
The silence you can hear in the air during a major snowstorm when it's so severe it that the world seems to have come to a stop.

7. What sound or noise do you hate?
The sound of my children BICKERING

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I'd love to be an interior designer. I am constantly painting the rooms of our house, using various techniques or experimenting with my own, picking bold, even outrageous colors and pulling them together into something that works. Kacey's room is currently painted in a pattern of six different pinks, reds and oranges. Jake's is done in orange, black and gray. I'm contemplating trying a combination of red, cream and teal in my own bedroom.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
Every time I go to the Kirby service center to pick up new bags for the vacuum and the sales guy looks SO happy to see me because you can tell he just doesn't see many people or much action in his job, I realize, I would not like to be the Kirby sales guy. BOH-ring!

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
It took you long enough to figure it out, but I'm happy that you finally did. Welcome home.

Tink of Pickled Beef

I don't know how I found Tink of Pickled Beef. I really do have some kind of weird psycho kinetic connection to Tink, but I think it's just psycho.

She and her sidekick and soon to be ball and chain, Hoop, keep me in stitches. From her artistic flair to her bold honesty coupled with her love of photography and comedic reparte guarantees an enjoyable read. Today, since I'm at work, it's:

"We're Not Going To Take It" by Twisted Sister

Hoop has recently been a really good spouse even by man standards. So much so, as men, we're thinking of suspending his man card. He proposed and he bought you a complete outfit in true romantic fashion. What hidden quality of Hoop have you not told us about?

This feels like The Price Is Right. Only instead of losing a boat, Hoop's balls are at stake. Does this Man Card come with discounts by chance? Hmm. Well… Hoop is a wiz in the kitchen. He makes omelets, and cereal, and the best damn cheese and cracker spread you've ever seen. He can burp the word "burp". He's amazing at hunting broken appliances. You should have seen how he shot down that mammoth TV. He's a five star general in Resistance. Ooo, and he can open a bottle of beer on his forearm. His FOREARM.

Is there an accomplishment in your life you are most proud of? How about one that was incredibly embarrassing, but you can talk about?

I'm pretty proud of the fact that I bought my first house on my 20th birthday. I didn't even need someone to cosign with me! I miss that house. I really feel like I grew up there. My most embarrassing accomplishment was being inducted into the Ace Program at school in eighth grade. I thought it would be fun to skip school. I didn't realize that it meant I would be going to OTHER schools instead. They made us wear nerdy shirts and compete in verbal pop-quizzes with geeks from other schools. I think it was all a funding ploy. Either way, I was definitely dropped from the popularity contest that year.

What is it about photography that interests you and do you have a favorite photographer?

What I love about photography is… Everyone gets the same small window to work with. But how and what each person fills it with is completely unique. Because of that, I don't have just one favorite photographer. But I DO have many favorite photos.

If a movie is made of your life, which actress plays you: a porn star, a mega movie star, or a new unknown with lots of promise? Who plays Hoop?

Does the person playing me actually have to LOOK like me? Because if not, I want a porn star. I don't care which one! Pick someone with really huge tits. Otherwise, I guess I'd have to pick Alyssa Milano. When I was little people told me I looked like Sam from Who's The Boss all the time. Hoop says I look like Charlize Theron. But I think he was just trying to get laid at the time. Hoop's movie replacement would have to be Vince Vaughn. People are always telling him they could be brothers.

You've had some really interesting roommates. Which one would you rent a room to again?

I'd rather be beaten unconscious with my own arm.

As far as I know, you've never been married. I married a woman who had been married before for 7 years. Hoop has been married before. What do you see as the pluses and minuses of marrying someone who has already "walked the aisle"?

I don't know if Hoop's last marriage qualifies. They'd only been together for a few months, when on a whim, they got hitched at the local courthouse. Then the chick enlisted in the military. After basic, they moved in with each other, wherein Hoop realized his new wife was crazy. I found her Myspace page not that long ago. She's got double Mohawks now and multiple face piercings. No lie. So I guess the pro of that is… Shit, I don't know. Maybe that Hoop is over whatever phase drew him to that kind of mate in the first place?

Who played most of the music on the Movie "Legend"? You listed Legend as your top movie of a top 4 to watch over and over. What aspect of that movie draws you in?

Tangerine Dream! I loved that soundtrack. I used to play it, along with the soundtrack for "Labyrinth", on the ride to school. The kids I was carpooling with weren't exactly amused, especially when I choreographed a car-friendly dance routine for "Magic Dance". I loved those movies because of the magic… and for the way David Bowie's ass looked in those tight leather pants. But mostly it was for the magic.

You and I share an affinity for personal ads. I think this is when I fell in deep mad love for you and started to plot the assassination of Hoop. First, what should guys really put in their ads and second, have you ever placed a personal ad? If you have, are there any good stories from that experience?

I've never placed an ad myself, or responded to one for that matter. But if I had, it might have gone something like this:

Looking for Johnny Depp look-alike. Must have original teeth. Bank account a plus. Ax murderers need not apply. Bonus if you like dogs. Double bonus if you don't have any. Please, no shorties or fat dudes in their forties. I am cute and only slightly ditzy. I come with a house and a whole drawer of kinky lingerie. Interested? Call me. I'll call you back, pending the background check.

My advice for all those lonely dudes looking for a chick is… DON'T DO IT THROUGH AN AD. The only thing more pathetic than a personal ad is a personal billboard. Hey, I've seen it. Instead, I recommend getting out. Join a club. Take a class. Troll the local bookstore in the dating help section. Whatever. Just please, for the love of boobs, do NOT start the conversation off with "Was your Father a thief?"

If you killed someone in the game of Clue, what would the clues be, "Tink did it in the...."

…library with a spork.

What's going to be different about your kids' childhood from your own?

Well hopefully they won't be poor. Maybe I should start a fund for that too. Having a Father around might be nice. You know, instead of just being a sperm donor. Also, if I'm putting in my order, I would like all my kids to be born around the same time. I didn't have a sibling until I was ten, and then I was more like the surrogate second parent. Not that I'm complaining. But it makes beating up your little brother a little difficult when you're playing Mommy number two as well.

You've been blogging for two years. Has any blogger stuck in your memory? What has surprised you about blogging?

The big surprise about blogging is how many people are doing it! I had no idea how addictive this would be. I guess the blogger that sticks out the most in my memory is Debbie from Debbie Does Life. She was my first commenter. It was because of her that I continued writing. That's all it takes I guess, just one person acknowledging you're there.

What do you want people to hear or understand when you write?

I'd like to think that people get something out of everything I write. But I guess that's a little presumptuous, huh? The age of community and fellowship is almost over. We're all islands now. People start to think they're alone. Writing, especially in a blog, makes me feel like I'm extending a bridge to the next island. "Hello! I'm here. I want to understand you." Sometimes you put yourself out there, and someone actually answers back.

Bernard Pivot Questions
=======================

1. What is your favorite word?

Free

2. What is your least favorite word?

Brung (Which isn't actually a word. But try convincing the local rednecks that!)

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?

Nature and/or natural states

4. What turns you off?

Things and people that are fake

5. What is your favorite curse word?

-Fucking- (As in abso-fucking-lutely and un-fucking-believable)

6. What sound or noise do you love?

The ocean. Bedsprings. Little kid laughter. (Do I have to pick just one?)

7. What sound or noise do you hate?

My alarm clock

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

Circus performer

…or Graphic design.

9. What profession would you not like to do?

The one I'm in

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

Welcome! (As apposed to, "Hm. Being in Texas we have our share of Aggies to watch as pure cult follower as well. That is until I met Phats of Rockin' the Comet: Phats style! at http://phatsdawg.blogspot.com/. Phats asked me on a couple of occasions to do football picks and I was glad to do it. Sometimes it's hard to find a good hybrid of sports blogger and enthusiastic, likable personality.

What I admire about Phats is his devotion to good old Purdue and it's said Boilermakers, but he's also extremely sports savy across the board. During the fall you can find his big game football picks mixed in with wit and witticism and I believe he has a good record against those who he asked to pic games.

Phats loves his anonymity and it's taken me about 2 months to get his nickel to him, but also to get his picture. As a matter of fact, this ex -Purdue cheerleader took his picture of his nickel while doing a flip or handstand or whatever cheer-people do. I think you'll enjoy our time with Phats!

How did you deal with hecklers as a cheerleader in college?

To be really honest with you, I never had too many encounters, but some of my friends did. I always found it comical how someone would make fun of us then watch us grab a hot girl's ass and not get slapped. I think that I was mature enough and confident enough in my sexuality to not really get too concerned over what other people thought. Like I said though, with our practice schedule, game schedule, and appearance schedule we were hanging out with the hottest girls on campus 6 days a week. Now we would also get heckled from time to time on the road by opposing fans. When we would enter another team's stadium they would boo and yell things and that just made us happier ha-ha. We'd go out and tumble and stunt and do our jobs.

What's the best heckle you can remember?

I don't remember too much about that. At our home games, we stood in front of our students and they were always great and actually did the cheers with us. When we went to the Alamo Bowl my sophomore year we were at the river walk doing cheers and one KState fan said something along the lines, "look it's the Boiler Dating Club, is dating guys within your own squad considered incest?" and he was talking to just the guys. Totally drunk; it was kind of funny; we just rolled our eyes.

How do you deal with hecklers at the level you coach at now?

It is very different now, because I am not in uniform and during football games, I sit on the track with the girls. It's funny; I get a ton of gay remarks when we travel because most people don't understand why a man would coach a cheer squad. So, it's totally a different situation, it doesn't bother me at all, I was born with thick skin and you can't let it bother you. Although, I do make Kristen travel with me more now after I get hit on by a male fan at a game - ha-ha!

What would you want to tell people about male cheerleaders and female cheerleaders?

For starters we are athletes. What we do is not easy, and most people couldn't do it. The training program is one of the hardest I have ever done. We are on a schedule that is tougher than both the football and basketball teams at Purdue. We not only had study tables, and practices, but then we were required to lift [weights] as well. You add that on top of our practices, games, and then appearances it was like having a fulltime job while attending classes. We are one of the strongest groups of athletes, as well, on campus. Not to mention I don't think there is a bigger group of party kids on campus, nationals was one big kegger, but you didn't hear that from me.

Is being a male cheerleader as glamorous as most men want it to be?

YES! What do most men enjoy the most? - Sports and hot women. Like I have said, we are with the hottest women on campus 90% of our college lives, we do so many stunts where we have to grab in interesting places, and we get away with it. As for the sports, you have the best seats for all the best games. We're right on the field for football, and on the floor for basketball. You can't beat that. The travel is amazing too. I got to go to San Antonio for 2 Alamo bowls, Tampa for the Outback Bowl, Pasadena for the Rose Bowl and also cheered for the 99 national championship women's basketball team in San Jose. All those trips were FREE! It's amazing.

How has teaching and school changed since you are now a teacher and, at one time, a student?

Wow, good question. The times have changed so much and I have only been out of [high school] for 10 years now. I think, unfortunately, there is a heightened level of security, and you have to be more careful now. School shootings seem to be more frequent and that worries not only me, but my entire family. When I was in school they were just starting to perfect what's called the 8-block system as well, and we now have that perfected. Where the kids still have 8 classes but have 4 each day, and they are 1 hour 90 minutes. I think also the kids seem to be better off. I sometimes shake my head when I pull into the parking lot and see the cars these kids are driving, I would never been able to drive or afford those cars and my parents wouldn't buy me one either. I think the biggest change though is the respect factor. I never dreamed in a million years in HS of disrespecting a teacher, or calling them by their first name. That happens almost on a regular occurrence nowadays.

What is the biggest problem in schools that you see?

I don't think there are enough quality teachers that are getting these kids ready to take the next step in their lives, whether that's college or exploration. I also think that a lot of times what gets taught is not as useful as what can be taught. Sometimes teachers focus too much on what the ISTEP (standardized test in IN) has on it, rather then really educating the kids. Obviously as well violence in schools, it's sad when you have to pass thru a metal detector before entering your High School.

How do you explain your fanaticism for Purdue?

HA! I Wish I could. I have always been a Boiler fan, ever since I can remember. We have been going to Purdue football and basketball games since I was like 5. I grew up always wanting to go to Purdue, and sitting in the student section, little did I know then I would be on the field. Part of the reason I went towards Purdue, and I think you Jef can understand this is we're the underdog in this state. One channel in Indy doesn't cover us at all, one only gives our score and no highlights. While then they give top story every night to Indiana. I have always been a fan of the underdog and to me Purdue was like the underdog of the state. I am hooked now, love my boilers, and always will.

What if you kids wanted to go to Purdue's biggest rival, I believe that's University of Indiana?

I would like to say Kristen and I would support their decision, but I am not sure I could HAHA! Man I am going to catch some for this answer. Kris is just as big of a Purdue fan as I am, so it would probably kill both of us. I'd probably put them up for adoption. Man I HATE IU, this question got my blood pumping!

What profession would you give up teaching/coaching for?

That's easy a Professional Tennis Player. I miss the adult interaction (some of it, anyway), the challenge, and the sense of accomplishment when I got the impossible done and done well. Oh, and the money, I miss the money.

- What caught you by surprise about motherhood? What caught you by surprise about marriage? What caught you by surprise about childbirth?

Motherhood: The way that things that are totally unacceptable become acceptable when it is your child. For example, in the past fifteen months I have been, alternately and together, covered in Mia's vomit, poop, pee, snot and drool, and it doesn't bother me in the least. Anyone else and I think it would take several years of therapy to get over that kind of thing.

Marriage: That it changes, which I knew going in but didn't really understand. Our lives have changed, our goals, ourselves, and our marriage has necessarily changed too.

Childbirth: That my husband could be in the room while they sliced me open and not pass out. Everything about childbirth was a surprise to me, because I ended up having a scheduled c-section, which was a scenario that had never occurred to me.

 - What advice would you give a single woman about the right kind of husband?

Marry a man you like, who likes you, and who has a job.

- If the hotty pediatrician was in front of you now and you had 10 seconds to tell him anything you want without him remembering it, what would you say?

Nothing. I would be too busy slipping him the tongue.

- You wrote on May 05, 2004, "And I do not need a baby to complete my life or make me fulfilled or save my marriage or make my ass any bigger." Since then how do you feel about that comment in light of your life, your marriage and your ass?

Holy archives, Batman. I think that statement needs to be put into context - at the time I wrote it I had recently started hearing my biological clock ticking very loudly and developed a sudden, uncontrollable urge to have a baby. I was wrestling a bit with that need. I had always wanted children and assumed I would have them someday, but it took me by surprise when having children became an imperative to me (so much so that I had given up coffee in hopes of improving my fertility).

My ass is bigger, my marriage is good but I am sure there are always more rocks ahead, and my life is amazing. Mia is the most fabulous thing ever, she's a wonder and a gift and I am so grateful to have her in my life and to have the ability to devote this small stretch of my life mostly to her. I didn't need a baby, if it hadn't worked out this way I would have been happy and fulfilled by other things, but now that I'm here I can't imagine ever going back.

- What's one thing you WANT Mia to inherit from you and what's one thing you WANT Mia to inherit from Chris?"

I would be happy if Mia inherited a love of reading from both of us.I think reading broadens your mind and your knowledge and allows you to understand and experience things that you might otherwise never know about.

Ok, that was cheating. From me, I hope Mia takes the habit of speaking her mind and from Chris I hope she takes the habit of kindness.

 - What would change your opinions of religion?

Would you ask me that question if my opinions were similar to your own? My opinions of religion change constantly based on whatever fabulously wonderful or horrifically idiotic thing people are doing in the name of religion at the moment. If you are asking what would make me espouse a religion or believe in the existence of god, I doubt anything would do that.

Bernard Pivot Questions

 01. What turns you off?

Fanaticism of any variety, hatred, small children standing outside the grocery store yelling at me to donate to their team/club/troop while their parents look for somewhere to park their Hummers, cigarette smoke and parsnips.

 05. What sound or noise do you love?

Mia laughing. Not just the giggle, which is good too, but the all-out laugh where she can hardly catch her breath and usually ends up with a wicked case of the hiccups.

 07. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

If god exists, I have a few things I would like to discuss with him. I respect that everyone has their own tastes and likes to go shopping for new furniture or paint, but they also have to respect that I'm not trying to design just for them, I'm designing for their business and THEIR clients, and that I have EXPERIENCE. The best clients are those that throw their hands up and say, "I'm not a designer, I know nothing about this," and put all of their faith in me. The worst are those that won't relinquish any control over the project to me.

You've been around the deaf in college and you have a boyfriend whose parents have visual difficulties. How do you think this has changed your
opinion of those who have a physical handicap?

I think it's made me stop feeling sorry for them, and not in a cynical way. It made me realize that they don't necessarily need all the pity people seem to want to hand out. Everyone's walking around feeling all sorry for handicapped people, but if you've been deaf or blind since birth you really don't know anything different. I'm sure you realize that your life is more difficult, but it's all you know. Jeff's parents amaze me. That they've raised three upstanding children with such limitations blows my mind. If they can do it, anyone can.

You've described yourself as an "avid camper" how have those experiences set you apart from other women and could you tell us if there's anything about camping you don't like?

I don't know that the actual act of camping has set me apart from anyone, but moreso the fact that my family couldn't afford better vacations than that when I was young is what set me apart. Even though they couldn't afford to take us on cruises and to other countries when I grew up they still tried as best they could to provide my brother and I with vacations. I still have fabulous memories of summers growing up, even if they weren't spent in the Louvre or on some Caribbean beach. The appreciation I've gained from that is probably the only thing that's set me apart, because in upstate New York I don't know too many girls who DON'T camp - the climate and surroundings beg to be camped in, so it's pretty abnormal if you're a North Easterner who doesn't camp.

Things I don't like about camping? I hate how everything always feels damp. When you go to sleep at night and your clothes and blankets feel damp, that's the worst.

You've talked about self image and weight and bravely posted your current weight. What's a huge thing guys can do to help a woman with a self-image problem?

Nothing. It should go without saying that a guy should tell his partner she's beautiful, sexy, the most seductive person on the planet, but beyond that there's nothing he can do or say to improve her self-image. That has to come from within. I can only speak for myself, but obviously I don't want my boyfriend telling me I'm fat, and I also don't need him encouraging me to go to the gym/put down the chicken wing. I have to want it for myself.

You seem to be very close to your mother. What advice would you give to a young mother?

I have no authority in giving any advice to a young mother because I'm not a mother myself. I can only tell you what has made my mother and I so close. Mainly, I think, it's the fact that when I was growing up she was strictly my mother, she wasn't trying to be my best friend like some mothers want to do. And this is not to say she was, in fact, strict, she was just the stereotypical mother; bringing me orange juice when I was sick, rubbing my back when I couldn't sleep, wiping my tears away when I was sad. She was endlessly patient, but she wasn't worried from one minute to the next whether I loved her or hated her, because she knew she was doing right by me and that's all that mattered.

The second I graduated from college, though, my parents said, "That's it, you're an adult now," and suddenly they stopped giving unwarranted advice, they stopped nagging, they stopped financially supporting me. They just let me go. And my mom became my best friend because she wasn't mothering me anymore. And I realized that I still needed her advice and her support. And God that is an awesome thing. To realize how much I still need my mom even though by all definitions I am an adult, to completely appreciate everything she's done for me. If she hadn't let me go I don't think I ever would have seen the forest for the trees. And she's survived cancer to still be here with me. I don't know that there's anyone around who appreciates their mom more than my brothers and I.

Can you explain being raised Unitarian-Universalist? How have your views changed?

For me, the religion and the way my parents raised me sort of blend together, as I'm sure it does for many people with strong religious influences. The thing is, it never seemed like there were strong religious influences because we weren't doing the "typical religious practices" like praying, reading the bible, etc. However, my father, was at one time president of the board of trustees at their church and my mother sang in the choir.

Being raised Unitarian-Universalist meant acceptance. It was about accepting people regardless of their race, sexuality, religion, etc. It meant accepting that people believe in different things. As UUs we believe in a higher power, but have not put a definition on it, but we accept that some people have. We don't disregard other religions because they don't coincide with our beliefs. And all this meant that I would be accepted by the religion and by my parents no matter what I decided, as long as it meant I was putting some good out into the world. That is a very powerful tool in keeping a family strong, I think, knowing that they won't be disappointed if you don't follow the beaten path, knowing that they respect my right to decide for myself.

Being raised as a UU also doesn't instill the fear of God into you that other religions do. You do the right thing because you want to, because you should, not because you'll have to answer for it in the next life. And my parents raised me the same way, not to do good because by doing bad you will be faced with consequences, but to do good because it's will make the world a better place in THIS life.

My views have not changed at all, but I am not a church-goer, therefore I would no longer define myself as a UU. I get frustrated when people try to claim they are Catholic just because they were confirmed even though they never attend church, have pre-marital sex all over town, and talk behind people's backs. How exactly are you following Jesus' word then? But I guess that's a whole other tangent. Clearly I am put off by organized religion and that's probably why I don't attend church. When people ask for my religious affiliation now, I just say I'm agnostic.

Are you a big Nirvana fan?

I wouldn't say I'm a BIG Nirvana fan, but I'd say I used to be, and I still appreciate their music and what they did for music in general. In middle school I was big into grunge/alternative, and whenever I hear a song that was popular back then it really takes me back, so more than anything Nirvana is sentimental to me.

What's the fascination with Dave Matthews?

Have you ever listened to his music???? I honestly can't even really explain what it is that I love so much about his music. It's just GOOD. He's so different than anything else out there. He's a musician in every sense of the word. He's not a pop star. He's not a celebrity. He's humble and fabulous and in genius. He tours, not to promote his albums, but because that's what musicians do. Musicians don't just record a CD and let people listen to it in their cars. Musicians perform. And when he performs, he PERFORMS. He can turn a four minute recording into a 30 minute performance highlighting every member of the band in a solo and then in the middle bring in a South African singer. And at the end of it all, he just says, "Thank you," and walks off the stage. It's music for the sake of music, art for the sake of art. His concerts are a truly awesome experience.

You're an aunt now. What kind of things are you hoping to do with your new nephew?

You mean, besides spoiling him rotten? Because that's really my plan at the moment. It's really hard to say other than that because my brother lives a ten hour car-ride away. But he and his wife are planning to move back up north in the next year or so, so when that time comes I will probably plant myself at their house and never leave. I'm going to visit them in Virginia in August and I seriously think I'm probably more excited to meet him than I have been for anything in my whole life. It's just so cool to have a baby in the family, but not really have the responsibility for him. Isn't that the real joy of being an aunt or uncle? I remember hearing stories about my parents hanging out with my cousins before my brothers and I were born, and how they'd take them to the movies or whatever and then be able to safetly hand them off to their parents after they were sufficiently hopped up on sugar and caffeine. What fun!

Bernard Pivot Questions
=========================

What is your favorite word?
Bubble

What is your least favorite word?
Curdle

What turns you on?
People who make me laugh until my face hurts, and people with sublimely open hearts.

What turns you off?
Arrogance and condescension.

What sound do you love?
Silence in the middle of the night.

What sound do you hate?
The sound the alarm clock makes just before it goes off.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
A back-up dancer for a pop star.

What profession would you not like to participate in?
A soldier.

When you get to Heaven what do you want to hear God say to you?
I would want Him to tell me that all of my loved ones are there waiting for me.

A New Winner!

We have a new Thunderhead among us. I'm glad I didn't overlook Jenn of "Jenius". I started seeing her comments here and there and decided I would investigate who this person was. In short, I'm glad I did. You will not find a more faceted blogger. She's like a good carnval, fair or mid-way ... there's something for everyone. Graciously, Jenn agreed to an interview and the process started. Halfway through, just like on her blog, I was glued to her answers.

So without further adieu ...

A friend played a pretty good trick on you and told everyone you were married. You were married for a day on the internet. What was that like?

Well, at first I thought it was only funny. I didn't think that anyone would buy it. But, then I started getting all the, what seemed sincere, "Congratulations!" and "Oh my God's". I did leave a comment at one point saying it wasn't true, but then decided to see where it went and deleted it. Then I get a phone call from my boyfriends best friend. He left a voicemail and sounded pretty freaked out but was unsure. Then my boyfriend tells me that his brother-in-law called asking because his twin had read it and she was wondering what was going on. Not to mention, my boyfriend had just moved to my state (NM) from his (CA) to be with me. All in all, it was kinda crazy having people congratulate me on my pseudo marriage. So, it made me wonder how crazy it's gonna be when/if the real thing ever goes down. I'm just sad I didn't hold out on the truth until AFTER the wedding gifts.

You've been involved in some pretty wild weddings involving bride stealing, ransoms and the like (see this link ) What about your wedding, how do you want that to go?

Yeah, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Five times to be exact. Maid-of-honor three of the five. I feel loved.

That's a crazy question when I really think about it. I don't think I've ever really been asked that on a serious note. Two of the weddings were pretty small, but the couples were happy and just really in love. That's all I want. It doesn't have to be some big expensive fairytale wedding. I just want him and I to be truly in love and happy and have the people we love there. (Quit being so sappy, Jef. Gah!)

Is there a perfect relationship? What is it like?

Perfect? I think that word's irrelevant. I guess a perfect relationship would be that we both understand that we, as humans aren't perfect. I guess we all have our own little "perfect" worlds in our heads and I could probably go on about this forever in a day. But, I don't think that's the way you wanna die.

Your job is very unique. What is your opinion of the judicial system, police and the general public since you've been working in warrants? ( see this link )

Well, where should I start? Since I've been working in law enforcement my views have definitely changed. Some good, some bad. As far as the judicial system, I think it's all botch. IE: I'll get a warrant for say, Unauthorized Graffiti that'll have a hold, no bond on a first time offender. Then the next warrant is a Criminal Sexual Penetration of a minor and the offender is free to post bail at just $50,000 cash or surety (which means through a bondsman 10% of that) until pre-trial or what have you. I just don't get it. I try, but I can't.

As far as the police themselves, there are good and there are bad. Some are out just catch the bad guys and some are out just to help the good guys. Some are out for both. Some are out to use their power for all the wrong things. Bad cop, no donut! There can be come big hypocrites. It's like the judge that got busted for DUI, with a woman that wasn't his wife and cocaine. Who was he to be judging all those years? I did however meet a cop that gets in trouble every year because he refuses to give a speeding ticket. When I asked why, it was 'because he speeds all the time.'

All the rumor of cops having a hard time with relationships isn't just rumor. A lot of them are cheaters, but it doesn't mean all. There is a lot of what we like to call "badge bunnys." Girls who want to get in their pants just because they are cops. But, when it comes down to the reality of it, a lot of civilians don't want to commit with a cop because of the lives they live. Most have crazy schedules and that's just the beginning of it.

As for the general public, I think people are so jaded into only wanting to see the bad that they forget there is good. All cops aren't bad, but it's like they say, 'one bad seed.'

What's the craziest thing you have seen in your line of work?

Behind the eyes of a crooked cop.

On working over night, do you think you will want to go to a regular 8-5 day job? What kind of job would that be?

Oh God, yes! I'm so ready for a 8-5, Monday - Friday. I've been on graveyard for over a year now and it's finally taken it's toll on me, physically and emotionally. I might as well be a cop, I have a schedule like one. The main and actually, only reason is it interferes with time with my son. And it's just not cool anymore. I wanna stay in the legal department. I might think the system is twisted, but I like what I do.

You and I are from states that may not care too much about each other, Texas and New Mexico. How would you convince someone to move - and stay - in New Mexico?

Well, I don't know if I'm that good, but my boyfriend did it. :D

What's the best thing about having a lip piercing?

Well, I just like the look in general. I used to like that not very many girls had it, but now it seems like it's everywhere you turn. Even the "preppy" kids are doing it. One of things though is the reaction from people. It seems like the people you would least expect to like it are the one's complimenting it; Like "older" people. My grandma digs it!

Any other piercings?

My tongue and my ears. Six on the left, five on the right. I just wear little studs or hoops. Most people don't even notice because of this big ol' black mop on my head.

Will you let your son get a tattoo?

Yup. Who am I to tell him no when I've gotten five myself? And I know I'm not done yet. I just hope if he ever does, it's because HE wants to do it because he likes it. I hope there's some sort of substance behind it. For me, I appreciate the whole art of it.

Now that you are a mom, do you see your relationship with your mom differently?

No, not really. My mom was always the best my brother's and I could ask for. I think because of her and my dad, my brother's and I learned the value of family and they not only taught us to be good parents, but made us WANT to be good parents. I do know that without her, things would be really hard for me. She fills the shoes of Sperm Donor.

What has surprised you the most about blogging?

All the hidden talent that's out there. And definitely how complete strangers can be so fucking cool. (Can I say the f-word?) I sometimes wonder why people in the blog 'o sphere are more intriguing to me than my "real" friends.

I like how bloggers can be real. I remember Mexi and Phelps laid into me once on a topic about my friend. At first, I thought, 'man these guys are assholes.' But, really, they made me think. They didn't have to lie to me because they didn't have to worry about my feelings, therefore giving me, what I think, is real insight on a situation.

What bloggers would you like to meet in person that you haven't already?

I haven't met any bloggers! I've only ever met one person from the net and it took me just about four years to do it. But, now that I'm not so 'I could be IM'ing with a serial killer' retarded, there are SO many I would love to hang out with and for so many different reasons. Definitely Katie, although blogging isn't how we became friends.

What got you into blogging?

Gabe. The same person that I met in person after four years. He has a blog, which is now abandoned. He told me I should do it one day, so I did.

What are your favorite blogs?

Oooh, that's a tough one. If I link someone it's because I think they're worthwhile and if you notice I have SO many links. Though, I'm planning and fixing those. I can't pick specifics, but some that come to mind are, Timmortal. He's insane on paper, per se. He's literally managed to make me laugh out loud AND cry. His metaphors are just kickass.

Katie for sure. She cracks me up at least once everytime. She's by-far not a mushy kinda girl. She's very sarcastic and smarter than she pretends to be. I get excited when I see she has new post. Mexi's a good read. He's pretty random and he's good at it. The other great thing about his blog is his commentary. Him and his blog buddies are sarcastic, witty and smart and it makes things just that much better.

I'm a big fan of Boko and his metaphoric art. The Zombislayer has his own theme going on, politics and women. Phelps does more of the politic thing, but he does it in his own Phelps kinda way. And they're all good at the art of blogging. Those are just a few that I can think of. I like reading you too.

Bernanrd Pivot Questions
========================

What is your favorite word?

Douchebag.

What is your least favorite word?

I don't think I have one.

What turns you on?

Common sense.

What turns you off?

Drama.

What sound do you love?

I love you, mom.

What sound do you hate?

Drama. He has been a reader for a while and I really like his site and his work so I thought I would take a few minutes of his time and ask him a few questions to post on my site. Graciously he accepted and is now a member of the Thunderheads. What I found was a really dynamic and interesting blogger in my own backyard.

Actually, he doesn't live in my backyard, it's too small for him and the dogs, but he does live in the area. Eddo not only posts to Posted Note, but also to The Blog Patrol - a site dedicated to making blogging a much prettier place by "Ridding the internet of ugly blogs one blog at a time!"

He's single ladies and a Mavs ManiAAC! And so when we left our hero ...

TF: Who's been your favorite MavManiAAC to be around?

Eddo: Dale - I am currently wearing his shirts at the games until they get me my own. He is really laid back and just cool.

TF: Maverick Dancers or MavManiAACs; who would you rather invite to your friend's house?

Eddo: ManiAACs - the dancers are sweet and all, but they make me nervous and fidgety.

TF: How much do you and "Terrible" Terry Tate Office Linebacker for Felcher and Sons have in common?

Eddo: I am Terrible Terry Tate! I am always having to stiff arm people at work when they try to slow me down. I freakin' love Triple T, he is everything that embodies the way that I feel inside and what I want to do to people who break the rules.

TF: You've designed a lot of very nice blogs. So far which has been your favorite?

Eddo: First of all thanks for the complimentos.

I think I was the most challenged on www.edgymama.com her site took me about 10 hours to complete and I taught myself a few new things along the way. Each one of my designs is very special to me. I love a finished product and going back and seeing it over and over again.

TF: What has surprised you the most about blogging?

Eddo: That I would meet people from all around the world and some of them would actually come from far away to visit me - like Steve and MsThang.

What bloggers would you like to meet in person that you haven't already?

I would love to meet Franklysaurkraut.blogspot.com, www.dooce.com, Ben and Sydney of www.marriedinminnesota.com, Amber and Zeno from www.amberbamberboo.com and www.fasteddiesbullet.com, and of course you!

Bernanrd Pivot Questions
========================

What is your favorite word?

SUMO

What is your least favorite word?

PUSS

What turns you on?

Anything that smells good. White teeth. Good Music.

What turns you off?

Inconsideration, bad breath, and ugly blogs.

What sound do you love?

Tracy Chapman's voice

What sound do you hate?

a woman crying

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

I've always wanted to be a singer or an actor.

What profession would you not like to participate in?

Anything that has to do with accounting.

When you get to Heaven what do you want to hear God say to you?

Nothing, I'd rather he just open his arms and welcome me with an embrace.

Thunderhead Quiz Winner 08-12-05

Andy of Artificially Intelligent won. As I sat on the bench, clutching my Pirelli automatic shotgun, I began to count the cans of Vienna sausages, just passing the time until the end of the world.

I lost count once I got to... oh about 7, and had to start over.
